My return to Elden Ring will begin with me taking on the role of the Witcher

By transforming my Tarnished into a Witcher, I will ensure that Elden Ring remains relevant throughout this year. After a few successful runs against Elden Ring, I tried a wide variety of different builds, from blood-spamming dex scrubs to faithful knights, and I found that I enjoyed each and every one of them. I was unable to continue exploring the Lands Between because the second half of 2022 was filled with the release of game after game after game, which left me with very little free time. I have more room now, so I'm diving back into it headfirst. However, I'm doing it as a Witcher this time to shake things up a bit, and if there's one thing I know about Elden Ring, it's that it has a lot of monsters for me to kill. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Simply put, there are not a lot of people who are willing to buy it from me.

Putting the structure together was not too difficult; you will need two swords total; one will be used against people, and the other will be used against monsters

1.  In Elden Ring parlance, this means that I am equipped with a broadsword for fighting monsters and a falchion for fighting invaders

2.  Instead of referring to humanoid foes, I am interpreting "people" in this context to mean other players (or AI invaders pretending to be players)

3.  If you had to have a little debate in your head before every fight about which sword you should use, things would start to get a little monotonous

4.  This is especially true when you consider the fact that some knights appear to be undead or mutated in some way

Regarding the signs, I haven't quite figured out the spells for all of them yet, but I do have Igni, Aard, and Quen under control. I use Rejection for Aard, Catch Flame and Flame Sling for Igni, and Immutable Shield for Quen, with the intention of using Immutable Shield for Quen as well. These mostly capture the essence of each sign, but because this is a Witcher build, I'm limiting myself to these specific spells and incantations in order to keep things in line with the canon of the game. Because I never saw Geralt practice magic or conjure portals, neither will my Tarnished do either of those things.

Even though you could make the case that merely playing Elden Ring from beginning to end constitutes "hunting monsters," and therefore fits the build and play style of The Witcher, I'm going to take it one step further. I'm staying away from dragons because Witchers aren't allowed to hunt them, and most of the time I'm working for Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman. In Caelid, in the Bestial Sanctum, you can find him loitering about. If you bring him Deathroot, which you obtain by killing beasts, he will give you rewards in exchange. My response to the Witcher contracts is essentially this at this point.

I'm not going to get involved in any of the major storylines, like Ranni's or the Two Fingers', because Witchers don't get involved in politics (or shouldn't, despite everything that Geralt does), so I won't be affected by them. In this hellhole of a dystopian society, I'm just a simple Witcher trying to make some money. As a result, I will spend the majority of my time searching for deathroot, in addition to eliminating optional bosses and monsters. After spending my most recent playthroughs pursuing different endings and battling major bosses, this is a good way for me to explore the Lands Between and take in everything that it has to offer. It's a good way to explore the Lands Between and take in everything that it has to offer.

Finally, there is the very last thing that is required for a good Witcher, and that is potions, as well as a place to call home. Most preferably a stronghold. My first step was to make my way to the Third Church of Marika in order to purchase a flask of wondrous physick. This was one of the first things I did. Although I haven't finished my research on all of the possible permutations just yet, I intend to use this information to recreate some of The Witcher's most famous potions, such as Swallow and Thunderbolt. I intend to reclaim Fort Haight as my personal residence and use it as a base of operations, with the majority of my time spent here being spent crafting various items. You can do it anywhere by using the menu, but treating it like Kaer Morhen's laboratory will make the Witcher experience that much stronger.

One of the best aspects of Elden Ring, similar to other Soulsborne games before it, is how deep its customization goes. To the point where you can make absurdly unique runs like this a possibility, this level of customization makes Elden Ring one of the best games in the series. It's possible that I annihilated hundreds of foes, players and non-players alike, across the Lands Between in 2022, but now I'm doing it with a new purpose, and that's what's keeping Elden Ring interesting, despite the fact that I'm over 400 hours into the game. Since I'll be returning to Elden Ring in 2023 by taking on the role of a witcher, let's raise a glass to another 400 hours of gameplay. Concerning These Subjects
